Charlatan is an explosive colt of sorts. Mild mannered, although never straight out nice, Charlie is always looking to sneak in a nip or challenge the hand that feeds him. Sometimes Charlie doesn't mean it. Most of the time, if he connects, Charlie means it. He'll roll his eyes white when the human yells at him and will rocket back into his stall in a downright overreaction. Within two seconds, he's back at his window, looking for more trouble. His dark brown eyes will glimmer with excitement and he'll snort as if looking for a fight. Charlie is not ashamed of any misbehavior and if not for his stellar lines, the big bay would likely be a candidate to lose his family jewels and he's told so every day he causes some sort of trouble.
During the mornings, Charlie is a bit of a hellion. He needs a constant babysitter or he implodes from over-stimulation. He loves to give his rider a hard time, often bucking and crow-hopping down the lane the first and second time by. He's not a brightly colored colt, but he attracts attention wherever he goes because of his vibrant personality. The outriders will chuckle every time he threatens to break loose, certain that the animal is keeping them in their jobs. For some reason, the colt's personality shifts in the afternoons and he becomes a lot more like his mama. He puts up a stubborn show during the post parade, flat walking like it's his day job. He's not a jack rabbit out of the gate so he doesn't need a fast warm up to get him in gear. The colt will break averagely and settle into his long stride, tucking into the field. He loves the challenge the pack provides him and seems to become more revved up the longer he gets to stay with them. His calling card is just before the final turn, where his jock gives him the cue to roll. With a stunning kick. Charlie will put separation between himself and the others and dash away as though he'd been held back the whole time. He's a flashy bugger in the stretch, often drawing away to win by a length or two with his ears pinned back to listen for his competition and daring them to come after him.
