North is a colt who believes that the world is his, and while not a creature of pure aggression he has a way of keeping his handlers on their toes. A rear here, a kick there… A bite when someone isn’t expecting it. You have to have your wits about you, or he could become a real danger. But treated with the caution and respect that he deserves and he tends to be compliant enough.
In the pasture he has to be the boss. If he feels challenged he will fight, but with more submissive colts and geldings he is calm – even playful, at times although he has been known to get carried away so it is advised not to leave him unsupervised with others and he is often turned out individually as a result. Northman is particularly fussy about the people that work with him and will make it clear if he is unhappy. However, he tends to mesh better with women. |
Racing Style: Preceder
Before a race, North is typically deadly calm. He loads well and doesn’t become agitated by the box. When the gates open he breaks quickly and settles behind the front runners, allowing them to set the pace and ghosting them throughout the early race. At the final corner, he pushes forwards and likes to take control of the race at the start of the home stretch. This is where he shows his power. He runs with all the will he has, eager in the contest. If another horse is beside him, he gives all the more. This colt hates to lose, and he won’t go down without a fight. |
